Supported Housing

The Vale of Glamorgan works with a number Charties and Social landlords to provide supported housing schemes in the Vale. Theses schemes are not intended to provided a "Home for Life"... instead the provide a platform for tenants to move onto more independent accomodation when they are able.


The Vale of Glamorgan's Supporting People team has developed a Directory of Services which details all of the housing related support services available in the Vale of Glamorgan. This directory is for anyone who needs advice or information.




Hafod Care - Vale Supported Housing Project


About the Service
This service is for people who are homeless, threatened with homelessness and/or in need of support to maintain a tenancy.
This is a temporary supported-housing service, providing accomodation and support to people who have a wide range of needs. the service includes support for managing a tenancy, budgeting and accessing other services.
Service users can remain in the accomodation for up to two years.


How to Access the Service
Self referals, Housing officers and other professionals can make referrals to the Supporting People Team on 01446 709193 or email at supportinpeople@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.
Application are assessed on the housing and support need of applicants and the suitability of the project to be able to meed those identified needs. Priority is given to families.

Hafod Care - Holmes Street Project


About the Service
The service is for people who are experiencing enduring mental health problems.
This is a temporary supported housing service. It provides accomodation and support for a limited time to help service users develop skills to enable them to live independently in their own homes.
The service can be accessed for up to 2 years.


How to access the service
Referrals are made via health case professionals such as Psychiatrists, G.P's, community Psychiatric Nurses and Social Workers.

Hafod Care - Windsor Road Project


About the Service

Llamau - Ty John Rowley


About the Service
The service is for 16-25 year olds who are:


  • Leaving Care and have been identified by Social Services Leaving Care Team as needing additional support prior to independent leaving.
  • Young people who are at risk of, or are homeless.
  • Young offenders or those at risk of offending.

Ty John rowley aims to provide temporary accomodation and support young people. An allocated support worker will assist service users to develop an Individual Support Plan that addresses any needs identified, with the final aim to move the young person into independant accomodation.
The service can be accessed for 6 to 18 months.


How to access the service
Most referalls are made directly through Social Services Leavin Care Team, although referrals are accepted from other agencies including self-referral.

Llamau - Ty'r Fro


About the Service
The service is for 16 and 17 year olds who are young and vulnerable and are at risk of, or are homeless.
Ty'r Fro aims to provide temporary accommodation and support to young people. An allocated support worker will assist service users to develop an Individual Support Plan that addresses any needs identified. The aim is to prepare the young person for move-on into independent accommodation and to maximise the sustainability of that accommodation.
Service users can remain in the accommodation for up to 2 years.


How to Access the Service
Every 16 and 17 year old in the Vale of Glamorgan presenting as homeless is seen by a Family Mediator at Jigso. In conjunction with other Jigso staff, decisions are taken on referral to Ty'r Fro at time of vacancy.

The Wallich - Croes Ffin


About the Service
The service is for adults with previous substance misues issues. Clients must have undergone a treatment or rehabilitation programme and be abstinent from illegal drugs or alcohol.
This is a temporary supported housing service. It provides accommodation and support for a limited time to help service users to develop skills in order for them to be able to maintain an independant lifestyle in their own homes.
In general clients stay at the project between 6 to 9 months. This can be extended dependant on individual needs.


How to Access the Service
Referrals are accepted from any substance misuse agency. Self - referrals will not be accepted.

Gwalia Care & Support - Bawden House


About the Service
The service is for people aged 18 to 60 who have a history of offending or are at risk of offending.
This is a temporary supported housing servoce. It provides accommodation and support for a limited time to help service users to develop independent living skills. The service will also support clietns with the move-on process.
Tenants are offered six month assured shorthold tenancies and the average lenght of stay is 12months.


How to Access the Service
Referrals can be made via, Social Services and Probation. The scheme does not accept people who have a recent history of arson, criminal damage, violence or who have severe mental health problems.
